Flow diversion is an endovascular treatment for brain aneurysms. A stent-like device placed in the parent artery diverts blood flow away from the aneurysm.
THE PROCEDURE
Flow diverter stents like the Pipeline™ Flex embolization device redefine treatment for large or giant wide-necked brain aneurysms by reconstructing the parent artery and allowing the vessel to heal.1, 2 This device features a braided cylindrical mesh tube that is implanted across the base or neck of the aneurysm.
Before Flow Diversion
Blood flows into the aneurysm.
Flow Diversion Technique
A flow-diverter stent disrupts the flow of blood from the parent artery into the aneurysm, gradually slowing the flow of blood into the aneurysm and, over time, preventing blood from entering the aneurysm altogether.
After Flow Diversion
As the body’s natural healing process works, the aneurysm shrinks.
