With over 20 years at Medtronic, Mike is a distinguished leader with a proven track record of driving success across various teams in the organization. He began in the field, representing and leading U.S. Coronary and Peripheral sales teams. Building on proven success, he expanded his leadership to manage broader cardiovascular business units, ultimately serving as President of the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Division.
As a member of Medtronic's Executive Leadership Team, Mike holds a unique dual leadership role. He leads the Medical Surgical Portfolio, which includes the Acute Care & Monitoring, Endoscopy, and Surgical Operating Units (OU). The Americas region and the commercial operations and transformations teams also report to Mike.
Previously, Mike led the integration of Medtronic's surgical devices with their robotic-assisted surgery technology. As Executive Vice President and President of the new Surgical Operating Unit, he helped shape the direction of the company's surgical offerings. Before that, Mike headed the Surgical Robotics Operating Unit, where his leadership positioned the team for growth and expansion.
Under his leadership, the recently launched Hugo™ robotic-assisted surgery system with Touch Surgery™ Enterprise is now making an impact on robotic-assisted surgery for patients globally.
Mike's leadership extends beyond Surgical technologies. He previously led the CRM Division. He oversaw four business units encompassing the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiac rhythm disorders and heart failure. Under his leadership, the division spearheaded the market launch of innovative products like the Micra™ transcatheter pacing system and the significant expansion of the TYRX™ franchise. Additionally, Mike's strategic direction led to the successful expansion of the company's business in China.
Mike fosters a culture of empowerment, enabling teams and individuals to thrive. His dedication to employee success is evident in his numerous Medtronic awards, including the President's Club, Star of Excellence, and Wallin Leadership programs. Notably, in 2018, Mike received a prestigious Medtronic Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Engagement (GIDE) award. This recognition underscores his commitment to fostering strong employee engagement, an inclusive work environment, and valuing diverse perspectives.
Mike also held roles at pharmaceutical and medical device companies prior to joining Medtronic. He received his bachelor’s degree from Boston College.
