Strata adjustable valves: MR conditional

Strata™ adjustable valves are considered magnetic resonance conditional in accordance with ASTM F2503. MRI systems of up to 3.0 tesla and a spatial gradient magnetic field of 720 gauss/cm or less, may be used at any time after implantation without damaging the Strata adjustable valve mechanism.

However, exposure to MRI can change the performance level setting of the Strata adjustable valve. The Strata adjustable valve performance level setting should always be checked before and after MRI exposure.

STRATA II adjustment kit, StrataVarious system, and StrataMR adjustment tools: MR unsafe

Do NOT take these tools into an MRI facility as as the magnets within the tools may be a potential safety hazard to the patient and/or user. Move out of the vicinity of the MRI suite before verifying a valve setting.

No MR safe A radiopaque code on the valves indicates valve performance levels and allows X-ray identification of the performance characteristics of the devices:
The code corresponds to Performance Level 1, Performance Level 1.5, and Performance Level 2. The use of the distal catheter results in resistance to flow. The maximum additional resistance to flow is 2 cm H2O at a flow rate of 20 mL/hour.

Reservoirs, ports, and shunt accessories: MR safe

Other hydrocephalus therapy products, such as reservoirs, ports, and implantable accessories including fixation tabs and catheter connectors, are all considered MR safe as they do not contain any metal materials, with only one exception: the stainless steel straight catheter connector, model number 25027.

Special attention should be taken if the surgeon chooses to use the stainless steel straight catheter connector, since this product is MR conditional according to ASTM F2503. Patients with the stainless steel catheter connector implants can safely undergo MRI under an MR system of 1.5 or 3.0 tesla static magnetic field, and a maximum spatial gradient magnetic field of 3000 gauss/cm.
