Getting started

Medtronic actively seeks out small and/or diverse suppliers able to assist in meeting our mission to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life.

See the appropriate classification below for certification requirements. Note that all small businesses must register in the System for Award Management (SAM) and the Medtronic Supplier Registration Portal (MSRP).

Our U.S. Supplier Diversity program encompasses the following classifications:

A business that is at least 51% owned, controlled, and operated by a minority group with member(s) of one of the following ethnicities: African American, Asian-Indian American, Asian-Pacific American, Hispanic American, Native American. To be recognized by Medtronic as an MBE, a company must be certified by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). A Minority Business Enterprise that is also a Small Business is considered a Small Disadvantaged Business.

A business that is at least 51% owned, controlled, and operated by one or more women. To be recognized by Medtronic as a WBE, a company must be actively certified by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) or, WEConnect International. A Women Business Enterprise that is also a Small Business is considered a Women-Owned Small Business.

A business which is 51% owned, controlled, operated, and managed by a person(s) with a disability. To be recognized by Medtronic as a DOBE, a company must be actively certified by the Disability:IN™.

A business that is at least 51% owned, controlled, and operated by one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender individuals. To be recognized by Medtronic as a LGBTBE, a company must be actively certified by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).

A small business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more individuals who are both socially and economically disadvantaged; for a publicly owned business, at least 51% of its stock must be owned by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals and must be controlled by one or more such individuals. African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Subcontinent Asian Americans, and Native Americans are presumed to qualify. All individuals must have a net worth of less than $750,000, excluding the equity of the business and primary residence. To be recognized as a Small Disadvantaged Business a company must also meet the size requirements listed on the SBA website and be certified and registered as such in the Medtronic Supplier Registration Portal (MSRP) or the System for Award Management (SAM) website.

To be recognized by Medtronic as a HUBZone, a company must be actively certified by the United States SBA as a HUBZone small business concern in accordance with 52.219-9(3)(4), and registered as such in the Medtronic Supplier Registration Portal (MSRP) or System for Award Management (SAM) website.

A business that is at least 51% owned, controlled, and operated by one or more veterans. To be recognized by Medtronic as a veteran business enterprise, a company must be actively certified by the National Veteran Business Development Council (NVBDC). To be recognized as a Veteran-Owned-Small-Business a company must also meet the size requirements listed on the SBA website and be certified and registered as such in the Medtronic Supplier Registration Portal (MSRP) or the System for Award Management (SAM) website.

A business that is at least 51% owned, controlled, and operated by one or more service-disabled veterans. To be recognized by Medtronic as a service-disabled veteran business enterprise, a company must be actively certified by the National Veteran Business Development Council (NVBDC). To be recognized as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned-Small-Business a company must also meet the size requirements listed on the SBA website and be certified and registered as such in the System for Award Management (SAM).

A small business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more women. To be recognized by Medtronic as a WOSB, a company must be certified and registered as such in the System for Award Management (SAM) website.

A firm, including its affiliates, which is independently owned and operated, is not dominant in its field of operation, and qualifies as a small business under the criteria and size standards in 13 CFR part 121 (see FAR 19.102). A table of small business size standards can be found on the SBA website. To be recognized by Medtronic as an SB, a company must meet the size requirements listed on the SBA website and be certified and registered as such in the System for Award Management (SAM) website.

Globally, Medtronic recognizes certified Women Business Enterprises, and locally defined small and/or diverse suppliers, as we extend our commitment to fostering an inclusive supply chain.

Registration

If you meet the certification requirements below and are interested in doing business with Medtronic, you must first register on the Medtronic Supplier Registration Portal (MSRP). The portal provides our sourcing personnel with access to detailed supplier capability profiles, and is used to validate certifications and diversity status of both potential and current suppliers.

  • Registration is not a guarantee of future business. Supplier selection is based on several factors, including pricing, delivery capabilities, service, and innovation.
  • For MSRP registration issues, click on the Support button (please do not contact Medtronic).
  • To be recognized as a small and/or diverse supplier your company must be registered in the appropriate certification database and copies of related certification documents uploaded in MSRP.
  • Profiles must be updated annually in MSRP with current certifications.

Sourcing with small & diverse suppliers

Sourcing personnel use the Medtronic Supplier Registration Portal (MSRP) to search for suppliers with a capability profile matching their sourcing needs. Registered suppliers may be contacted directly by sourcing personnel who use contact information listed in the profile.

Additionally, Medtronic has active membership in community partners fostering an inclusive supply base. We attend the national and regional networking opportunities hosted by these groups to find best in class small and/or diverse suppliers. Medtronic encourages our strategic partners to share in a commitment to small and/or diverse suppliers by committing to fostering supplier diversity within their supply chain. Medtronic suppliers participating in the Tier II demonstrate greater alignment with our values and reinforce their strategic position within our supply base. Community impact

In addition to the internal benefits Medtronic gains from best-in-class suppliers that are small and/or diverse, positive external impacts also occur. Medtronic understands that leveraging non-clinical assets such as supply chain can have a positive impact on the communities we serve.

Program impacts are detailed annually in the Medtronic Integrated Performance Report and the Global Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Annual Report. For our Medtronic provider partners tracking this more closely, we also offer a quarterly Medtronic Tier II Spend Report.
