The DST Series™ EEA™ XL is 10 cm longer and was designed for laparoscopic use.
The same rules apply to this stapler as with any other when determining which size staples are best suited for an application. Compressibility of the tissue and the compressed thickness are the guides. If tissue can comfortably compress to 1.5 mm, it is suitable for a 3.5 mm staple. The other rule of thumb for using 3.5 mm circular staplers is to look at the staple height used with the linear staplers associated with the same tissue. If 3.5 mm GIA™ or TA™ products are used, then it would make sense that a 3.5 mm EEA™ stapler could also be used. If 4.8 mm GIA™ or TA™ products are used, then the 4.8 mm products may be a better choice. Remember, the 3.5 mm staples are only available on the 21 mm, 25 mm, and 28 mm sizes.
Yes. The DST Series™ EEA™ OrVil™ accessories are compatible with both staple heights for the appropriate diameter product, i.e., 21 mm with 21 mm, and 25 mm with 25 mm.
No. The 21 mm and 25 mm DST Series™ EEA™ OrVil™ accessories are compatible with all 21 mm and 25 mm DST Series™ EEA™ XL staplers only.
Yes. If a surgeon positions an anvil, then decides that the larger or smaller staple height is appropriate, they can open a new stapler and use the anvil that has already been placed.
Surgeon preference or procedural appropriateness can dictate a need for either a sharp or blunt tipped trocar accessory depending on the case. We decided to offer both options to provide added versatility.
You should always squeeze the handle fully when firing. At the completion of the firing stroke a tactile crunch and an audible click will reinforce that the firing process is complete.
No. Both the sharp and blunt trocar tip accessories are approximately 5.7 mm in diameter at their widest point and need to be removed through a cannula that can accommodate that size.
