Overview

Testing our barcode format with the Application Identifier AI (20) internal product variant data field with your barcode scanning systems ensures that you maintain accurate records when you scan and capture data from Medtronic product labels.

A barcode test confirms:

  • Your scanning systems are capable of scanning  the Medtronic product barcode format.
  • The AI (20) internal product variant is not captured or appended to the AI (10) lot or AI (21) serial number.

Frequently asked questions

When your scanner reads the test barcode, check for the following:

  • Barcode data is read and accurately captured in your systems, such as supply chain and EMR/EHR
  • Data captured exactly matches the barcode data including (10) lot or (21) serial number
  • Confirm the AI (20) internal product variant data is not appended to the lot/serial number

By completing the barcode scanning test, you can ensure your systems properly read and capture the barcode product data.

Our barcode scanning test will help you understand potential scanning errors:

  • Scan failure: The test barcode scan signals an unreadable barcode. Print a new test document and scan again. You may need to add the test product to your systems to complete the test.
  • Function 1 (FNC1) character separator error: The barcode scanning system fails to separate the (10) lot or (21) serial number from the (20) internal product variant data field and causes the variant data to be appended to the end of the serial or lot number. This likely means your systems are not reading and interpreting the FNC1 character separator. This error in configuration is easy to resolve with your IT team or system vendor.

No. Once you successfully complete the test, you can be confident your scan systems will properly read Medtronic barcodes.
