MedEd Learning Experience podcast
Experts share safe and effective use of therapies in acute care and monitoring.
The MedEd Learning Experience podcast is a weekly podcast series that provides brief, interview-style discussions with clinical experts and is designed to teach safe and effective use of different therapies in patient monitoring and respiratory interventions. The podcasts feature discussions on anesthesia and brain monitoring, unplanned extubation in the NICU, routine intubation with video laryngoscopy, challenges in the NICU, the value of NIRS in clinical practice in the NICU, non-invasive and invasive ventilation in the NICU, and more.
The goal of this program is to get closer to the patient and delve into the challenges and impact of each technology in practice.
Dr. Ashish Khanna MD reviews how postoperative patients on the floor may be at risk of adverse events due to under monitoring.
For this segment, we discuss the history, development work, and ongoing research dedicated to Nellcor™ pulse oximetry technology. Sam Ajizian, MD and CMO of Medtronic patient monitoring, helps provide insight into this topic.
Eli Kuhlmann, Senior Research Manager at Medtronic, teaches us how near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) measures the concentration of hemoglobin in blood.
We’re breaking down the challenges of unplanned extubations in the NICU and diving into the risk factors and causes. It’s all in this episode of MedEd Learning Experience. And nobody explains it better than Nikki Davidson, a master’s-level trained nurse who works at a level 4 NICU in a dual-capacity role at the bedside and in quality assurance and process improvement.
For this segment, we discuss how we are currently monitoring the brain during surgery. To help provide insight into this topic is Dr. Bob Thiele, assistant professor and co-director of the enhanced recovery after surgery program at University of Virginia.
How is NIRS used in a “routine” monitoring paradigm? Dr. Jonathan Mintzer, NICU, well-baby nursery medical director at Mountainside Medical Center, explains the process.
Ever wonder why airway management seems like a maze? Dr. Felipe Urdaneta, an academic anesthesiologist at both University of Florida Health and Gainesville VA Medical Center, explains it all in this episode of MedEd Learning Experience.
