DBS THERAPY AND YOU DBS THERAPY FOR DYSTONIA

talk to a doctor

To learn more about DBS therapy, see a neurologist who is experienced with DBS. Usually, these doctors are movement disorder specialists.

DBS may be prescribed by a neurologist if a patient:

  • Has chronic dystonia
  • Has been unable to successfully manage your symptoms with medication
  • Has primary dystonia, including generalized, segmental, hemidystonia, and cervical dystonia
  • Is 7 years of age or older

Be prepared

Here are some suggestions:

  • Download and read our Dystonia Patient Brochures
  • Try to talk with people who have received DBS Therapy
  • Make sure you’re comfortable with your doctor. He or she should be helpful, supportive, and ready to answer any questions one may have
  • Carefully weigh the probable benefits and risks of the treatment
  • Request information from the doctor

Before meeting with a doctor, think about what you hope to learn. Prepare questions, and be ready to provide information about the medical history.
