Vanwege het internationale karakter van ons bedrijf en onze medewerkers hebben we hun verhalen en ervaringen in het Engels weergegeven.

"WORKING IN A CONSTANTLY CHANGING ENVIRONMENT, WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF COLLEAGUES KEEPS ME SHARP."

In his free time, Erik loves to spend time on his hobbies: whitewater kayaking and mountain biking. But most of all, he loves to spend time with his family and friends. Erik is happily married to Saskia and the father of his daughter Ilse. And he is enjoying life as much as he can.

Erik started his Medtronic career in the millennial year 2000; no day has been the same and time is flying still.

Erik about his position at Medtronic

Within Medtronic, we have centralized a number of activities in our Financial Shared Services Center (FSSC) based in both Heerlen and Prague. The team that I am working for, is part of the FSSC and is responsible for the Procurement-to-Pay (PtP) processes for the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East & Africa). My job as a Business Process Specialist is therefore very diverse and comprises a variety of tasks. I am a Subject Matter Expert, mainly on the “to Pay” part of PtP.

In my role, I constantly work on different projects. Mostly cross functional and often across the globe. These are projects such as implementation of new entities, improvement of the automation of the PtP processes, but I am also involved in the transfer of tasks to robots.

Erik’s education and career path

In the year 2000, I started in the ‘Outbound’ department in our distribution center as a pick packer. After one and a half years in this role, I was able to make a career switch to the Finance Shared Service Center at the Accounts Payable department as an Accounts Payable agent. After this, I moved to my current position of Business Process Specialist in the PtP Enabling Services Team.

Most challenging in my current role

Most challenging in my current role are the number of projects which are running simultaneously. Prioritizing my work and making sure that we focus on the most important projects and tasks, are key every day.

What I like most in my current job

The flexibility which I get in working cross functional on the different projects and working together with people of different backgrounds, departments and with different views on a project. This makes my job extremely interesting.

What I like about working for Medtronic

Working for Medtronic, means working in a constantly changing environment. Next to that, I am working with colleagues, who are often a decade younger than I am, on a daily basis. This keeps me sharp. I really feel that by working in the Finance department, I contribute to the Medtronic Mission. You are a smaller part of the bigger picture.

What ‘Further, Together’ means to me

I can be very short on that. ‘Further, Together’ for me means: one company, one goal.

My most memorable experiences at Medtronic

Over the past 18 years, I won two finance awards: the Achievement Award for the successful implementation of the global IP project and the Achievement Award for the successful introduction of the first-ever Medtronic virtual team member – Bob. Another award which I won was the High-Five Award: a Customer-Focused Quality Team Award together with the Pick Pack team in my early days at Medtronic.

These recognitions were definitely milestones in my Medtronic career. However, actually working on these projects, cross functionally and across the globe on the Global IP project, as well as being part of the project group which launched the first robot within Medtronic, have been fantastic experiences in itself.
