RECHARGING DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION FOR ESSENTIAL TREMOR

STICK TO A SCHEDULE

If you have an Activa™ RC neurostimulator, you must check the battery daily and charge the battery regularly.

The key to recharging is to set up a schedule that's easy to remember and fits your routine. Some people choose to recharge every day for about 30 minutes, others recharge every 10 to 14 days for about 4 hours. Ask your doctor about how often you should charge your neurostimulator battery based on your therapy settings.

Frequent recharging doesn’t harm the battery or its performance, unlike batteries in some electronic devices.

CHECK THE BATTERY EVERY DAY

Use your patient programmer to check your battery level every day so that therapy doesn't stop.

The time before your battery gets low depends on the level of stimulation you are receiving.

No matter your recharging schedule or your stimulation settings, your device will last for 15 years before it needs to be replaced.

*Activa™ RC devices eligible for the service life extension and the supplemental limited warranty are those devices sold in the US that have been successfully interrogated with the Medtronic Activa Clinician Programmer prior to reaching End of Service (EOS).

RECHARGING SYSTEM

You can attach the recharging system comfortably over your shoulder and around your waist, so you can use it hands free. The system has the following parts.

  • Recharger: Charges the battery in the neurostimulator — display provides information on the recharging process.
  • Shoulder belt: Keeps the antenna positioned over your neurostimulator during your recharging sessions.
  • Pouch: Holds the recharger so you can move comfortably while you recharge.
  • Carrying case: Stores the recharger, the recharging components, and the DBS patient programmer.
