Chronic
Pelvic Pain

The Women Like Me website aims to help you make sense of various gynecological conditions and symptoms, which may have a negative impact on your life.

Overview

Chronic pelvic pain is pain in the area below your bellybutton that lasts for 6 months or longer. Chronic pelvic pain can come and go, or it can be constant.  Your doctor will ask about your medical history and perform several examinations to try and identify the cause. These may include:

  • A pelvic exam
  • Blood tests
  • Ultrasound
  • MRI
  • CT
  • Diagnostic laparoscopy

Chronic pelvic pain can have multiple causes. These include endometriosis, bowel related problems, bladder related issues, infection and multiple others. Therefore, it can be challenging to diagnose. A pain diary will help your doctor to analyse your symptoms.

Pain diary

Keeping track of your pain will help you to better understand when and why it happens.

If you are under treatment, the pain diary can be very important for your doctor to understand and interpret your symptoms.
