CHRONIC VENOUS Insufficiency

Treatment options

There are a range of options available to help control the symptoms of Chronic Venous Insufficiency. Scroll down the page or select from the quick links below to view the range of different treatment options.

Treatment options

Sclerotherapy

Involves injecting a solution directly into the vein. The scelerotherapy solution causes the vein to scar, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is then reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades. This is often considered for small varicose veins.

Treatment options

Surgical Stripping

Also often described as surgical ligation, and considered a minor surgery. The vein (or the affected part of the vein) is removed (stripped). An incision is made below the vein, a flexible instrument is threaded up the vein to the first incision, and the vein is grasped and removed. This is often considered for extremely tortuous (twisted) varicose veins.

Treatment options

Thermal Ablation

Thermal ablation uses thermal energy or heat to close the affected vein, which redirects blood flow to healthy veins.

Treatment options

Cyanoacrylate Ablation

The cyanoacrylate ablation procedure delivers a small amount of a specially formulated medical adhesive to seal — or close — the affected vein, rerouting blood to nearby healthy veins.
