Getting a Replacement – DBS Therapy

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

We want to ensure that your Reclaim® DBS Therapy for OCD continues without interruption. Before your battery runs out, you’ll need to replace the neurostimulator of your Reclaim™ DBS system through a surgical procedure. The DBS leads and extensions can typically stay in place and be reconnected to the new neurostimulator(s).

Battery life depends on how much stimulation your device is programmed to provide each day.

Your clinician will closely monitor the performance and battery levels of your neurostimulator at each of your appointments. If you start to show signs of increased OCD symptoms it could be an indication that your Reclaim DBS system isn’t working properly.

Be sure to tell your clinician right away if you experience any unusual symptoms, side effects, or changes in your condition.

Indications: The Medtronic Reclaim™ DBS Therapy is indicated for bilateral stimulation of the anterior limb of the internal capsule, AIC, as an adjunct to medications and as an alternative to anterior capsulotomy for treatment of chronic, severe, treatment-resistant obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) inadult patients who have failed at least three selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

Reclaim DBS Therapy for OCD is available in a very limited number of centres.  Only a specialised multidisciplinary group of physicians can determine whether this therapy is right for the patient.
