After middle ear surgery, our bioresorbable ear packing and patching products aid wound healing and help prevent adhesions.1 Ear packing and patching typically is performed with canalplasty, tympanoplasty, myringoplasty, and stapes and mastoid procedures.
Convenient Aid to Wound Healing
Our bioresorbable ear packing and patching products help separate mucosal surfaces and minimize adhesion formation after middle ear surgery. They’re made from esterified hyaluronic acid (HYAFF®) to keep the surgical site moist and aid wound healing.1-4
Most Common Middle Ear Surgery Complications
The most common postoperative complications from middle ear surgery include middle ear adhesions/fibrosis, dense fibrous capsule formation in the middle ear, and chronic granular inflammation of the tympanic membrane graft and canal wall.

In middle ear surgery, biocompatible1-7 hyaluronic acid has been shown to improve the natural healing of the mastoid cavity following tympanoplasty and help reduce fibrous scarring.1-4

Biomaterials are rigorously tested for biocompatibility -- cytotoxicity and the body's reaction to the biomaterial, as well as how the biomaterial reacts to the body.
For ear packing and patching, our MeroGel®, MeroGel Injectable, EpiDisc® and EpiFilm®, and EpiDisc TM Perf Patch Kit utilize esterified hyaluronic acid, or HYAFF®.
