After growing up in the tropical climate of Venezuela, it has been surprisingly easy for Felix to adapt to the life in Maastricht, as living here is so easy going. The only thing Felix is still trying to get used to, is the European winter season. In his spare time, Felix loves traveling, hanging out with friends and playing sports. And with roots in Latin America, he likes to dance to Latin rhythms at times too.

Felix about his position at Medtronic

I am part of the European Middle East & Africa (EMEA) Supply Chain department, specifically working for the Minimally Invasive Therapies Group (MITG) Supply Chain team as a team leader. Our main goal is to ensure that the right product gets to the right customer at the right time. My role consists of managing a group of over a dozen supply chain planners, who are responsible for arranging the supply of our products to our customer and patients in the region.

Felix's education and career path

I obtained my master’s degree in production & engineering in Venezuela, where, after my studies, I worked in different industries for a while, including: fast-moving consumer goods, cosmetics, personal care and medical devices. As I wanted to gain international experience, and at the same time improve my level of English, I decided to move to Dublin, Ireland. After passing a few English courses, I moved to Munich, Germany, where I started in a Business Intelligence job. Knowing that my passion lies in supply chain, I decided to pursue my career there and so I accepted a position in the UK with Covidien. After Covidien joined Medtronic, the supply chain department was centralized in Heerlen and that brought me to Medtronic in Heerlen. You can say that my time in Europe has been an exciting journey up until today. I am very glad that I had the chance to live in several European countries and to get to know different fantastic people and cultures.

Most challenging in my current role

Supply chain management is a very dynamic and complex process. There are so many variables that can impact the supply of products out of our distribution centers, in order to fulfill our customers’ needs. You can think about manufacturing issues, natural disasters which can impact production, transportation limitations etc. All of these are part of the challenges that we need to overcome to ensure that we serve our patients in the best way possible.

What I like most in my current job

One of the aspects that I enjoy the most in my role, is having the chance to connect with so many diverse international people. My role in EMEA requires a high level of communication and team work with people from all over the region, all of them with all kinds of nationalities and backgrounds, which I find very interesting.

What I like about working for Medtronic

What I like the most, is knowing that every day when you walk into the office and give your best, you are contributing to helping restore the live of a person somewhere in the world. By understanding which products the different individual countries need, and by making sure that their requirements are met in our plans, and thus being able to provide them with the right supply of products and therapies.

What ‘Further, Together’ means to me

It means going the extra mile when creating and designing new products and new ways to reach our patients, and at the same time forging new partnerships with our customers committed to transforming healthcare.

My most memorable experiences at Medtronic

I would say the merger between Medtronic and Covidien a few years ago. Medtronic and Covidien were two of the biggest medical device manufacturers in the world, so the activities related to the integration, were very complex, but at the same time very exciting and challenging. I am very glad that I was part of the general process.
