Daniella lives in Rekem, a village just across the border in Belgium. Here she lives with her husband and her two kids, daughter Kate (8 years old) and son Dean (6 years old). Also part of their family are three dogs, a few chickens and a guinea pig. In her spare time, Daniella loves to walk her dogs and go for a run.

Daniella initially joined Medtronic in 2015. She left Medtronic temporarily, however, and returned to the company after she missed the dynamic environment, growth possibilities and flexibility.

In my current role, I am part of the IT organization. Since January 2019, I started in a new role and I am now managing the Digital Health team as a Senior IT Supervisor. In parallel of being a people manager for the team, one of my goals also is to provide IT solutions.

For Integrated Health Solutions (IHS) Managed services, we deploy IHS IT solutions to support customers (hospitals, clinics) in improving operational excellence and providing
IT enablement, both in cathlabs and operating rooms. As part of the IHS material management deals, we have developed an in-house tool that runs on the Connect platform, called the IHS Digital Platform.

For the digital health area, we are delivering low-code solutions (for example FocusOn) with custom development and we are setting up a standardized low-tech platform to support business IT partnerships in the digital health space with focus on Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC).

All very exciting, as we intend to set the standard for new and innovative ideas and solutions.

Daniella’s education and career path

I initially started in June 2015. After a year, I decided to take a break, but a few months later, I rejoined Medtronic. I am still very happy with that decision and it even made me more dedicated to my role within Medtronic. The reason I left is the same reason why I returned: the dynamic of the Medtronic working environment with different teams and people, and finding that common ground. At first, I thought I wanted to work in a more quiet and predictable work environment. However, I learned rather quickly that I was hungry for more challenges and not knowing what your day will bring.

Back in 2015, I started as a Business Analyst within the IHS IT team. After a while, I grew into a senior role, a team coordinator, before becoming the manager of the Digital Health team. That is the role that I am now fully focusing on and in which I want to develop.

Most challenging in my current role

The most challenging in my role is to maintain a good communication between the different teams and business units. And that we are focusing on what really matters: deliver IT solutions that can be applied across various business units and make a difference for patients (directly or indirectly).

What I like most in my current job

Every day is a new day. And not one single day is the same. One day you’re working on getting your IT applications GDPR compliant, the next day you’re invited to explore a completely new IT platform, new ways of software development. There is such a wide variety in the things to do and every day offers new learnings and takeaways.

What I like about working for Medtronic

The company in itself, the mission, but also the internationality and the recognition of its employees for their commitment. And the opportunities Medtronic offers for growing and learning. I am convinced that within my role as part of IT, I contribute to the well-being of patients by providing tools which make the life of those who provide care to others, easier via digitalization and innovation.

What ‘Further, Together’ means to me

For me it means one group, one team, crossing the borders of the world. Alignment and cooperation, within and across different business units and teams. I always try to sustain good relationships with other teams.

My most memorable experiences at Medtronic

The first time that I witnessed live how our Medtronic products are being used during a cathlab procedure on a patient. I can’t deal with blood and surgery very well. So actually attending a live procedure, was quite an experience for me. Next to that, seeing the clinical situation of the patient, after which I was allowed to witness how the hospital staff helped such a patient, was a strong confirmation for me that I work for the right company.
