Overview

Same trusted brand. Advanced access design.

Aspiration of oral and/or gastric secretions is directly linked to the development of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). The use of a tracheostomy tube with subglottic access and intermittent suctioning decreases the incidence of VAP for critically ill patients requiring mechanical ventilation 1,2,3.

The Shiley™ Flexible Evac trach tube with TaperGuard™ cuff technology offers clinician-inspired enhancements to the Shiley™ Flexible Adult tracheostomy portfolio, and features:

  • The addition of an Evac lumen to enable removal of secretions from the subglottic space
  • The patented taper-shaped TaperGuard™ cuff
  • A translucent outer cannula with beveled tip

This product can be used for the initial tracheostomy insertion in the ICU to remove potentially bacteria producing fluids4, which are recognized as a primary source for ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP).

Shiley™ Flexible Evac tracheostomy tubes were designed with a slightly larger outer diameter, compared to standard Shiley™ Flexible trach tubes, to support the Evac lumen for secretion removal.

Available in single cannula, reusable inner cannula, and disposable inner cannula configurations.

PRODUCT FEATURES

Shiley™ Evac technology

  • The integrated suction port and lumen are positioned close to the cuff and designed to remove any fluid in the subglottic space that is difficult to suction otherwise

Thermosensitive transparent outer cannula

  • Beveled tip on all product configurations eases percutaneous insertion6
  • Smooth, continuous curvature enables proper positioning
  • Sizing — I.D., O.D., length, and tube curvature — is comparable to that of earlier Shiley™ products

TaperGuard™ low pressure, low volume cuff

  • Reduces fluid leakage by 99 percent compared to legacy Shiley™ tracheostomy products4
  • Low pressure, low volume design applies less lateral wall pressure on trachea in benchtop study7
  • Thinner material enables more even distribution of wall pressure7
  • Thinner, less bulky cuff reduces insertion force by 48 percent5

May reduce the risk of irritation and skin breakdown

  • Soft, transparent flange material is designed to conform to the patient’s anatomy and may help reduce the risk of skin breakdown8
  • Custom designed flange openings improve airflow to sensitive skin, and are offset to help reduce contact with the patient’s skin

Made of DEHP-free material
