Overview

Addressing Critical Issues in the Care and Safety of Neonates

With their fragile lungs, neonates have special ventilation needs that are addressed by the Puritan Bennett™ NeoMode 2.0 software for the Puritan Bennett™ 980 ventilator. This software helps clinicians provide safe ventilatory support to neonates weighing as little as 300 grams.

The NeoMode 2.0 software was developed to address the issues most critical to the care and safety of neonates. It’s designed to provide accurate breath delivery, responsive triggering, customizable elevated oxygen for procedures, effective alarm management and automatic leak compensation with the Puritan Bennett™ Leak Sync software.

Product Features

Addressing critical issues in the care and safety of neonates

With its solutions and settings designed for small lungs, the Puritan Bennett™ NeoMode 2.0 software offers a full spectrum of functionality that helps clinicians effectively ventilate neonatal patients.

This software includes features that allow clinicians to:

  • Set a tidal volume as small as 2 mL for neonatal patients weighing as little as 0.3 kg and up to 7 kg
  • Adjust the predicted body weight (PBW) setting without disconnecting the patient or interrupting ventilation
  • Customize temporary increases in FiO2 in 1% increments
  • Deliver effective noninvasive ventilation
  • Adjust tidal volume in increments as small as 0.1 mL, when ventilating with volumes between 2 mL and 5 mL
  • Accurately measure proximal volume, flow and pressure in mechanically ventilated patients with the proximal flow sensor
  • Monitor ml/kg, C20/C and Tau

The NeoMode 2.0 software also enables responsive breath triggering by allowing clinicians to adjust the flow sensitivity from 0.1 to 10 L/min.

Medtronic announced that it has decided to keep the Patient Monitoring and Respiratory Intervention businesses as a part of Medtronic, given changing market conditions. These businesses will get increased investment and be combined and called Acute Care & Monitoring (ACM).

Medtronic also made the decision to exit the ventilator product line.

Amid evolving market conditions and a shift to lower acuity ventilators, this decision aligns with Medtronic’s strategy to concentrate resources on our market-leading positions and accelerate innovation-driven growth.

While this decision will take time and planning, we are committed to supporting our existing ventilation customers. We will continue to provide service and support throughout the ventilator life cycle, along with meeting our service contract obligations.
