Getting a Ventilation Tube or Adenoidectomy Ear Infections

Overview

If there is still fluid behind a child’s eardrums after a course of antibiotics, or if a child has repeated ear infections, an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist may recommend ear ventilation tubes (vent tubes).

If the ear infections are related to swollen or infected adenoids, an adenoidectomy may be recommended to remove the adenoids.

Potential Patient Pathways

Whether an adenoidectomy or an ear vent tube is the potential pathway for a child depends on several factors that should be discussed with the child’s ENT specialist.
