GETTING A REPLACEMENT DEVICE DBS THERAPY FOR OCD

REPLACING A NEUROSTIMULATOR

It is essential that DBS therapy for OCD continues without interruption. Before the battery runs out, a replacement neurostimulator  is required through a surgical procedure. The DBS leads and extensions can typically stay in place and be reconnected to the new neurostimulator(s).

Battery life depends on the daily requirements in the device program.

The doctor will closely monitor the performance and battery levels of the neurostimulator at each appointment. If signs of increased OCD symptoms are present it could be an indication that the DBS systems settings may require modifications.

The doctor should be advised right away if any unusual symptoms or changes are experienced.
