GET HELP DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION FOR ESSENTIAL TREMOR

WHEN TO CALL THE DOCTOR

If a patient feels like something is not right with their therapy, or they're not getting relief from their symptoms, they should call their doctor.

Patients should call their doctor if they experience any of these symptoms or changes:

  • Pain, redness, or swelling on the scalp, neck, or chest
  • No symptom relief when the neurostimulator is on
  • Pain or discomfort during stimulation (turn off the neurostimulator before calling the doctor)
  • Cannot turn the neurostimulator off or on
  • Unexpected changes in the essential tremor symptoms
  • The patient programmer or any charging system component has been lost

PAtient Manual

The patient manual covers your DBS system and treatment. Patients will receive a copy after their implant procedure.

IDENTIFICATION CARD

Patients should always carry a card that identifies them as having an implanted device.

The doctor’s office will send Medtronic the information necessary to receive the patient identification card. This information is also used to track the implanted device.

SUPPORT FOR THE HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

Throughout the therapy, we provide the doctor and clinic with 24/7 technical support, training, therapy updates, extensive online resources, and a local Medtronic representative who is only a call away.

Whenever the patient need medical care for the DBS or an unrelated medical condition, make sure to tell the healthcare provider that you have an implanted Medtronic DBS system. Give the healthcare provider the name and number of the doctor who manages the therapy — it will be on the Medtronic Device Identification Card.
