Our suppliers are critical to our Mission. They enable us to create and deliver products and services that improve the lives of millions of people every year. It is important to us that the companies in our supply chain share our values — including our focus on quality, responsible business ethics practices, and corporate sustainability. Together we can make a lasting, positive difference to patients and to the communities and environment in which we operate.
Working together with more than 68,162 suppliers across 138 countries, we help uphold human rights, environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and product quality in several ways:
- We provide a suite of protocols, tools, training, and support to help suppliers meet our stringent quality standards.
- Our Supplier Diversity Policy recognizes ten diverse supplier types, including small businesses and those owned by women, minorities, disabled, LGBTQ+ individuals, and veterans.
- Our Global Supplier Standards describe the minimum social, ethical, and environmental requirements and expectations of our suppliers. We incorporate these standards into supplier selection and management processes, supplier agreements, and purchase order terms and conditions.
SUPPLY CHAIN RESPONSIBILITY — Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) HIGHLIGHTS
Our supply chain is central to our ability to provide high-quality, life-improving products and services. In FY20 Medtronic:
- Partnered with suppliers amid the COVID-19 pandemic to secure permission to operate as essential businesses and increase production of essential components and products — including those that can improve the health of COVID-19 patients
- Increased our U.S. supplier spend with diverse-owned businesses by 10% compared to the previous year
- Spent $2.4 billion with small and diverse suppliers in the United States and Puerto Rico. This investment supported 24,000+ jobs at those suppliers totaling $1.4 billion in wages and benefits
- Ranked among the top 75 companies in the Fortune 500 by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council for its sustained commitment to women-owned businesses
