External Drainage and Monitoring System
The Duet™ External Drainage and Monitoring System is a CSF drainage system that can be used for both external ventricular and lumbar drainage.
About Duet
The Duet™ External Drainage and Monitoring System is an innovative product for the management of short-term external cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage. Duet is unique in that it allows the caregiver the flexibility to drain and monitor CSF from the ventricular or lumbar areas.
How It Works
The Duet™ External Drainage and Monitoring System is an external drainage and monitoring system that uses gravity to drain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the patient’s ventricles or lumbar space to an external drainage receptacle. It is a closed system that enables the critical care professional to efficiently and effectively drain and monitor CSF.
The Duet’s catheter is surgically attached to the patient before it is attached to the drainage system. An opening is made in the patient’s skull or lumbar region and a catheter is inserted into patient’s ventricle or the lumbar subarachnoid space. The catheter is then attached to the drainage system. The CSF or blood is drained and monitored until the patient is stabilized, the infection successfully treated, or a long-term drainage method is implemented.
The most common complications associated with this product are due to infection, overdrainage and intracranial hemorrhage. At times the common complications can provide serious risks and should be treated promptly as such.
It is important to review the Instructions For Use for complete safety information, potential complications, contraindications, and a complete explanation of warnings and precautions.
