Should someone with an insertable cardiac monitor (ICM) take their remote monitor with them if they travel?
If traveling for an extended period of time, a person with an ICM or loop recorder should take their phone or bedside monitor with them, depending on which one they are using to send information to their doctor. Information from their monitor can be sent to their doctor from all over the world, as long as a cellular or Wi-Fi connection can be established. If traveling for just a few days, a person with an ICM should ask their doctor if they need to take their remote monitor along. They should plug it in when they arrive close to the location where they'll be spending the most time (sleeping or relaxing). If going for a long trip or a trip with a big time difference, a person with an ICM should check with their clinic. The care team may want to adjust the time zone on the bedside monitor to make sure the heart data uploads while the person is sleeping.
