How is an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) turned off for surgery so there are no shocks?
Doctors have two ways to turn off the shocking feature on an ICD. They will either use a specialized magnet to hover over the ICD or the device will be programmed to temporarily turn off the shocking function.
